Fun at the Park

Today we met our friends Samantha and her Grandma at the local park.Samantha is a year older than Gage and lives out of state but comes to stay w/Grandma and Grandpa during the Summer and at holidays. We met her a few years ago and try to see her when she is here. She has always signed and was struggling verbally when we first met her.Her parents were not informed about AVT(auditory verbal therapy) so I took the liberty of informing them and I wrote a letter to her school suggesting they try to incorporate some listening activities into her therapy.A cochlear implant may be a big disappointment if not properly trained on how to use them.Well, I can tell the school has obviously been helping her more now and she seems to be progressing beautifully with both oral and signing skills.I understood almost everything she said today and the fact that she talked soooo much was even an improvement. Before she preferred to gesture or sign and became frustrated easily when we didn't understand her clearly. She's truly a testament of how just a little information can go a long way!

That is so true, the little teaspoon of information can mean the world to someone else. I think it is the best feeling in the world when you see nothing but good come of it. Happy New year!
